At least 24 individuals have reportedly been killed and several other others harm by a large forest fire in central Portugal.

Around 400 firefighters are battling the blaze in the mountainous Pedrogão Grande area, some 200km southeast of Lisbon.

According to preliminary stories, it seems many of the victims had been trapped in their automobiles and had been burned alive or suffocated. At least two individuals are lacking.
